The festival of English was a Wednesday. It started at 10. First, we had the presentation of spelling and translation. That was done by the English teacher. The teacher Meri was won by sixth grade. Second place was seventh grade, my grade.
After that we had songs of Michael Jackson that are in English. We had games in English where they gave us some cards while we played a game. If we won they gave us some stickers. If we had three stickers you would have 70 in english. I won four stickers and I have my 70 in englesh.
Also there was a house of terror in sixth grade.

[A grade of 70 in Bolivia is equal to 100% in the US]

ACTIVIDADES FINALES DEL COLEGIO (Johnny)

The class of woodshop is very cool because we carve wood. We draw on the wood before we carve it. For to carve wood one needs a chisel and a file for the chisel when it dulls. It is very fun to carve in the wood. We made animals and persons. I like the class because we make many things very pretty and I have fun. But it is very dangerous to use the chisel because you can cut a finger or a hand. We have class the Saturdays at 1:30 until 3:30.

Happy Chickens

The students have been pestering me to write in Spanish so here is a cuento they've written about some happy chickens. We'd love to hear your thoughts/reflections about what it takes to create a happy life.

In Bolivia we celebrate the birthday with presents, with cake, and also with friends. We invite our family and neighbors. Later we have a party with dancing, eating, and drinking soda. The birthday person has to bite the cake and then we push the face into the cake. That is how we celebrate the birthday here. For girls 15 years is the biggest and for boys 18 year is the biggest.
My most happy birthday of my life was my 12 years. I got many presents like clothes and sports balls. That day was very nice and now my birthdays are only so so for me.

Los duendes - The imps (Sergio)

The imps, they say are real. I believe that they are real. They say they only attack those that rob their gold. Also there is a necklace that serves to convert the imps into stone. They do not want you to have one. They say that the imps only have fear of belts. They only are in the bushes with spines. They are wrinkled like grandparents and other times they are like children. They come from places where there are many trees and bushes. One time my cousin almost was bit on his foot but the imp saw his belt and ran.

Día del estudiante - Student's Day (Sergio)

In my school the Day of Students we celebrate the 21 of September. It went very good. First we inflated balloons for to adorn the school and later the teachers got ready for dance. The first dance was pimpinela, the man dresses in a suit and the woman like a homemaker. The second was muchaguay, the man dresses in a vest and the woman in pollera [the indigenous skirt]. The third was cueca, it is the same dress as muchaguay. The fourth was chapaca, it is almost the same as the two. The last was a representation of the school. The teachers acted like the students. Later the students danced. About the food, they gave us a sandwich, soda, chocolate milk. The teachers asked everyone to dance but I left from there because I do not like to dance.

Bailes Típicos - Typical Dances (Denis)

In Bolivia there are many typical dances like Diablada, Chaquarrera, Achas, and Morenada, Tinku, etc. For example, Diablada is from Oruro because there was “El Socavón” a fight between good and evil. Chaquarrera is from Chuquisaca where a man named Luis invented the hymn of Chuquisaca. Achas, Morenada, and Tinku were invented by men from different provinces. For example I like Tinku because the costume has many colors and also because the movements are nice. My mother likes it much because she is from Potosí.
